Invacare Electric Wheelchair - Products and Information

Already confronted by a serious disease like multiple sclerosis, living with a birth defect such as cerebral palsy, or suffering from the long-term results of a serious accident or illness, the disabled are constantly seeking mobility aids to provide a greater degree of independence. Dressing aids, bathroom bars and raised commodes, bed rails, and reach sticks are a few of the items available to increase independence at home; but what about transportation for going from room to room, traveling outside, going shopping, or working outside the home? Invacare has all the answers.

When most people think of Invacare, the commercials touting the benefits of the scooter come to mind. Actually, the wheelchair scooter is an excellent choice for lightweight, flexible mobility. Since the chair disassembles into 5 manageable pieces, the disabled with upper body strength can take the scooter apart, load the parts into the vehicle, and be on his/her way. Plus, the slim design enables the driver to get into tight spaces, between the racks at a store, and maneuver through crowds with ease. Another benefit is the seats ability to rotate. Consider the advantages. Instead of maneuvering into a perfect position alongside counters and tables, and leaning sideways to reach food, dishes, crafts, etc., the driver is able to pull next to former obstacles and turn the seat to face forward without uncomfortably shifting.

However, the scooter is not Invacare’s only electric indoor/outdoor wheelchair. The pronto has a van-like semi-reclining seat, six wheels for improved stability and mobility. The motorized wheelchair is designed for comfort, larger weight capacity, and one-handed steering. The pronto is also able to handle steeper inclines, and the chair still comes in a compact frame. Furthermore, the pronto has a larger motor and batter. Thus, the chair can go greater distances with increasing speed.

In addition to the traditional electronic wheelchair, Invacare has a model capable of tilting at a 45-degree angle. The tilt may help a caregiver brush teeth or wash the hair of the disabled-just to name two benefits. Medically speaking, the tilt may also shift pressure points and relieve the often-inevitable pressure sores. Also, in the near future, model will be have elevated wheelchair capability. For the handicapped, elevation means being able to reach higher cupboards, cooking over the stove, instead of to the side and reaching up, and doing the seemly simple chores like dishwashing.

So, Invacare is not merely the supplier of electric scooters. The pronto and the tilting model are also worthy of a second look before making the final decision on what model meets the specific needs of the individual. If in doubt, specialists at Invacare can answer pertinent questions and help the consumer find the right chair for optimal comfort, independence, and mobility.
