Aluminum Wheelchair Ramp - Lighter Option

Living with a disability is challenging, to say the least. The simple act of brushing one’s teeth may take 10 times longer than normal, or require the assistance of a caregiver. Getting ready in the morning often necessitates dressing aids. Even using the restroom is no easy task. The majority of a day is spent taking care of basic needs. Therefore, handicapped individuals can use any assistance available to make life a little easier, especially in the area of accessibility. Aluminum wheelchair ramps are a light and portable answer to getting into homes and businesses.

In a variety of sizes, the aluminum ramps are compact and often fold to store in the home or carry in the back of a vehicle. Modular wheelchair ramps are excellent for semi-permanent situations, until individuals can afford renovation to a home. Although weighing between 30-60 pounds, for the average ramp, the aluminum structure is able to sustain up to 600 pounds. Therefore, the combined weight of a heavy-duty wheelchair and the occupant will not be a deterrent to entering/exiting a home or vehicle.

With some ramps, another deterrent is traction. Especially on a steeper rise, many ramps provide little/no traction in rainy and snowy conditions. Even with a substantial push from a friend or caregiver, ascending a ramp can be almost impossible. Descending is another story. Runaways and subsequent crashes are a real danger. Therefore, aluminum ramps are textured to promote optimal traction regardless of the conditions. Coupled with 2-inch sides, aluminum wheelchair ramps are the safest alternative to permanent structures.

The modular wheelchair ramps are great for portability. By folding/disassembling the ramp, the lightweight aluminum is easy for caregivers to pick up and move to an alternate location. In many cases, the ramp will fold into the equivalent of a standard suitcase, complete with handle for easy carrying. For around $400, the aluminum ramp can circumvent up to six stairs, elevations up to three feet, and enable a chair to enter a van for transport to doctor’s visits, work, or fun recreational activities.

Despite the reasonable price, maybe purchasing a modular ramp is not necessary. For patients recovering from surgery or an accident, medical supply places have inventory for rent. For a day, a week, or by the month, folding portable ramps are available for temporary use. When a person regains mobility, the ramp is easy to fold, stow in the car, and return.

In conclusion, an aluminum wheelchair ramp is the portable, affordable solution to mobility challenges. Whether permanent or temporary, the aluminum design is easy to relocate. In addition, the ramp folds compactly to store when not in use. Although the price is an economical solution to a temporary/permanent disability, people may opt to rent the ramp from medical suppliers. Thus, a disability does not have to prevent an individual from enjoying life and remaining a productive member of society.
